Los Angeles — Two men who bred and trained pit bulls for fighting have been sentenced to state prison after animal cruelty investigators broke up their dogfighting ring, officials announced Monday.

Walter Citizen, 43, and Arnett Counts, 42, were arrested last year after investigators got a tip that dogs were being mistreated at Citizen’s property in South Los Angeles. Seventeen dogs and four puppies were rescued from the house, where the adult animals were staked to heavy chains in the backyard and several bore the scars of recent fights, officials said.

why are some people such worthless human beings?

It says Vick was administered a polygraph test by the FBI in October 2007 and denied taking part in the killing of dogs in mid-April. When told he had failed that part of the test, Vick recanted his story and admitted to helping hang six to eight underperforming dogs.

The dogs were killed by shooting, hanging, electrocution and drowning, and in at least one instance, according to one of the witnesses, when Vick and Phillips killed a red pit bull by “slamming it to the ground several times before it died, breaking the dog’s back or neck.”

now let me make this abundantly clear…
michael vick is a disgusting human being.
he doesn’t deserve to be around another animal for the rest of his life, and he does deserve every single second of his sentence (and more).
…but he was just staked out because of his name and was made an example of…
now, there’s nothing wrong with that as it serves as a very powerful deterent tool for future cases, and more importantly, avoiding them…
but that’s only assuming that it’s used as an opportunity to teach about all the wrongs wrapped up in the act of dog fighting, animal abuse and breed discrimination.

my problem is that for the most part, this hasn’t been done.
there has clearly been no justice served for the actual crime committed.
there is no justice for the breed of dog…the pit bull, who not only had large numbers murdered at the hands of these bastards, but have had there reputation as a type of dog continually dragged through the mud by the media. (quick example being the headline of the story i linked to!!! ‘vick put family pets in with pit bulls’ … as to somehow suggest that pit bulls ‘aren’t’ family pets in there own right???)
there is no focus on the true root problems, and it’s just treated as a headline story and then dumped when it’s been rung dry by a fawning celebrity obsessed society.
and there is no backbone shown by the court system, when someone blatently continues to LIE and then is just able to recant and admit that he lied only AFTER he is caught, with no consequence in sight.
this goes not just for michael vick, but for politicians and hundreds of other types of dishonest and cowardly human beings.

what message does this send people, who actually have a functioning brain and the ability to think for themselves, people with pure thoughts and intentions set at the fore front?
what message does this send to kids when they are taught at a young age to believe that wrong is punished and atonement for ones actions really does exist?
and then the very people that tell there kids these tales, go out and sell the message down the river when it’s time for them to clock in at there 9 to 5.
it’s a joke. that is all.
